What is Podcasting?

Think of podcasting as internet broadcasting. A podcast is mp3 audio you can download to listen to anytime. Podcasts are best delivered through an RSS feed (What is RSS?). These feeds can be delivered in any number of ways, including your feed aggregator, podcast receiver, such as ipodder, or delivered to an online service.

How is it different from the standard mp3 file?

The ease at which you can load the podcast to your computer or other audio player. Want to listen to internet audio programs but can't when they are scheduled? A podcast receiver lets you create your own custom online audio anytime, anywhere.

What types of programming can I listen to at the DairyLine Pod Center?

DairyLine Radio
is proud to present a variety of audio podcasts to inform you of the various aspects of the dairy industry.  See the list below for the latest reports we have to offer. Would you like the DairyLine Podcast delivered directly to you? Click on the podcast button to copy the link into your podcatcher. Don't have a podcatcher?

Podcasting is a way of publishing sound files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new audio files automatically. Podcasting is distinct from other types of audio content delivery because it uses the RSS  protocol. Users subscribe to podcasts using software  which periodically checks for and downloads new content. It can then sync the content to the user's portable music player. Podcasting does not require an iPod, however; any digital audio player or computer with the appropriate software can play podcasts.More on podcasting at Wikipedia »

Set your podcasting aggregator program for our weekly Vet Visit, Udder Health Talk, Dairy Tax Tips, Breeding, or Nutrition reports . The program automatically checks the reports you selected, and will download new programs to your computer or your portable mp3 device.

What is RSS?

RSS, or 'Really Simple Syndication' allows you to listen to Dairyline's latest program the minute it has been posted.

RSS feeds take the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by showing you the very latest information that you are interested in.

RSS feeds are just a special kind of web page, designed to be read by computers rather than people. It might help to think of them as the free, internet version of the old-fashioned ticker-tape news wire machines.

The first thing you need is something called a news reader. This is a piece of software that checks RSS feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added to them. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer
