NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OCTOBER 13, 2009

Important dairy rallies to be held in New York State.

The Progressive Agriculture Organization (Pro Ag) will be sponsoring two more dairy rallies in New York State.  The first one will be held on Friday, October 23,2009 at the Copenhagen Fire Hall, Copenhagen, New York.  The rally will start at 12:30 PM.  The fire hall is located on RT 12 in Copenhagen (Lewis County).

The second rally will be held in the cafeteria of the Hammond Central School on RT 37 in Hammond, New York (St. Lawrence County).  This rally will be held on Saturday October 24, 2009 and will start at 12:30 PM.

Pro Ag has held several rallies in different locations explaining the Specter-Casey Dairy Bill, which is identified as the Federal Milk Marketing Improvement Act of 2009.  Arden Tewksbury, Manager of Pro Ag said,    “The Bill has been well received at all meetings, with over 1,000 dairy farmers expressing their support for the Bill.”

Floyd Hall, a strong dairy activist from La Fargeville, New York said, “The dairy farmers are still experiencing the worst price-cost squeeze that I have ever seen.  Time is running out for many dairy farmers, and something has to be done and done soon!”

The Specter-Casey Bill would price the milk to dairy farmers based on the National Average Cost of Production.  In addition, the Bill contains a Supply Management Program, which would be funded by dairy farmers (if needed).  Tewksbury said, “ The Supply Management Program part of the Bill can not be implemented until the US Secretary of Agriculture determines that the import of dairy products does not exceed the amount of dairy products being exported.”

Both Hall and Tewksbury are urging all dairy farmers, agri-business people, and consumers to attend at least one of these rallies and support our solutions to the dairy farmers financial crisis.
