FARMER PRIORITY ISSUES THAT NEED IMMEDIATE ACTION
1.)
Set
an immediate emergency floor price of $18 under all milk used for manufacturing
dairy products. The Class I price (fluid milk price) shall then be determined by
using the higher manufactured Class price plus the existing Class I differential
in all markets. This will keep farmers afloat until a fair milk price is in
place.
2.)
Take
immediate action on the completed Department of Justice case against Dairy
Farmers of

Stop
the illegal use and importation of milk protein concentrate (MPC).
4.)
Support
and push for passage of “The Federal Milk Marketing Improvement Act of 2009”
(S-1645) which embodies the basic principles needed to correct the current
unfair milk pricing system that continues to harm dairy farmers.
5.)
Conduct
a thorough investigation into the retail price of milk and all dairy products to
determine why consumers are paying more for dairy products while farmers are
being paid less, and take immediate steps to stop this price gouging.
6.)
Support
the proper implementation of the Capper-Volstead Act of 1922 under which dairy
cooperatives should be taking the necessary steps to establish a fair milk price
for all dairy farmers.
