DAIRY FARMER PRIORITY ISSUES THAT NEED IMMEDIATE ACTION

.)    Set an immediate emergency floor price of $18 under all milk used for manufacturing dairy products. The Class I price (fluid milk price) shall then be determined by using the higher manufactured Class price plus the existing Class I differential in all markets. This will keep farmers afloat until a fair milk price is in place.

.)    Take immediate action on the completed Department of Justice case against Dairy Farmers of America (DFA).

.)    Stop the illegal use and importation of milk protein concentrate (MPC).

.)    Support and push for passage of “The Federal Milk Marketing Improvement Act of 2009” (S-1645) which embodies the basic principles needed to correct the current unfair milk pricing system that continues to harm dairy farmers.

.)    Conduct a thorough investigation into the retail price of milk and all dairy products to determine why consumers are paying more for dairy products while farmers are being paid less, and take immediate steps to stop this price gouging.

.)    Support the proper implementation of the Capper-Volstead Act of 1922 under which dairy cooperatives should be taking the necessary steps to establish a fair milk price for all dairy farmers.
